For more than 100 years Hunter Institute has provided high quality education for its students. Today over 50.000 students are enlisted at Hunter Institute making it one of the larger TAFEs in Australia.

Located in one of the premier industrial areas of the country the TAFE is proud of its continuous and diverse connections with several major companies. This connection as well as the industry experienced staff ensures a hands-on education that focuses on the present and future needs of the economy.       


Location

The TAFE is situated about 150 Kilometres north of Sydney in the Newcastle/Hunter Region. Well known for its diversity the area features functional industrial estates and magnificent vineyards, all within an hours drive.

Port Waratah, just north of Newcastle, is the biggest and busiest port on the continent. Newcastle itself has developed into a tourist attraction of its own with Nobbys Beach, excellent shopping venues and a newly redesigned waterfront.

On top of general equipment such as computer laboratories, libraries and conference rooms, Hunter’s campuses provide special facilities like an art exhibition area, a fully equipped equine centre and nursing practical rooms.

Entry Requirements

These may vary from course to course. In general, it is necessary to provide a school education that is the equivalent to the Australian years 10-12 with passes in English. Furthermore, enrolment at TAFE NSW requires a minimum level of English language skills (equivalent of IELTS academic version min. of 5.5). 

Student Activities

The possibilities are as diverse as the region itself. The numerous beaches in the area invite to swim and sunbath. For the rather active person, there is an abundance of National Parks with natural wonders to discover. Myall Lakes National Park with its almost tropical settings is a paradise for outdoor fans.
